Anhelo
by Los Adolescentes

Woke up to go to work, where I wasn't on the schedule, and stayed on as a cashier/MP3. Morning cashiers are like zombies... (shudder). Came home, ate a pan con lechón, and watched an episode of The West Wing. Ma and Jessie went to a party, and Pops and I stayed home watching The Life of David Gale. Talked to Victor afterwards about Frankenstein and his monster, the 20 year-old. Swift debate about the ethics of dating after which some wisdom was interchanged and the respective cases rested.

Modern Nature
by Sondre Lerche

Woke up at 1 this afternoon, after I said last night I'd get up earlier. Picked up the room and reluctantly vacuumed half the house and the bathrooms, and then took a shower and got ready to go to Jessie's graduation (but first to my study abroad meeting at 5). At 6:20 I got the call to be there, and I headed out. After the ceremony we walked to the car, that was 2 blocks away, and I took Jessie to get her graduation present-- a pan con bistec. We came home to mini-celebrate, and had ourselves a time.

by Kanye West featuring Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Bon Iver, and Nicki Minaj

Got up, took a shower, and drove to Pembroke Pines to spend the day with Tia Mari. Saw Martica, went to a French place, and then went home to watch the first episode of Castle. Shortly after I darted to FIU to pick up the tickets for tonight, and then drove to Adrian's to pick him up. Went to Sunset for the advance Hangover Part II screening, where we met up with Matt Gomez, lobbyist and newfound member of the Green movement. Part II was almost exactly the same as the first, and slightly more ridiculous, lol. Drove back to Adrian's after, watched the rest of the Heat game (the one that went into OT), and ate some frijoles al gabinete c/o Espinosa, after scavenging the burnt pieces of cake left on Chachi's wax paper. Left a little while after, came home, and, if I remember correctly, went to bed.

To Be Surprised
by Sondre Lerche

Got up, went to the beach with my parents, picked up my sister, came home. Pops cooked some camarones.
Jacuzzi inkling...
Watched the beginning of The Great Dictator with the Great Dictator and Mom, and then, when they went to bed shortly after losing patience with Chaplin, I turned on Dan In Real Life, which I'd been meaning to rewatch. I loved it all over again, and spent the rest of the night creating an IMDb account and rating films.
1AM

I brought out the dusty old Sound CDs, the first two, in honor of a beach day, and listened to them in the car on the way to and from. At the beach today I taught my Mom to be good. She now thinks I'm a deity.

Como Hay Gente en la Calle
por Albita

This morning I went to watch the midnight showing of Pirates: On Stranger Tides... oOoOoh... Went with Kira and Elena, to Sunset. The movie was fun, and they were cool as always.
Woke up at 2 PM, slummed it at home, cleaned up my room, watched some SNL and did other unimportant things. At night it got interesting again, when my aunts made sure I heard through the grapevine that Albita was giving a free concert on the mile. Hells yea! Picked up Mileini, went to the Borders in Merrick Park (MERRICK PARK IS SO GREAT!) to buy the Unbearable Lightness of Being (DID I MENTION HOW COOL MERRICK PARK IS?), and then headed over to the Sears lot, to park and walk to the concert. Felicidades, Cuba! Hoy ganamos nuestra independencia~
Albita estuvo... vaya, fenomenal. Y la orquesta de antes, también. Se pasa bien. Back to Mileini's for refreshments and then back home, arriving circa 12:30. Ate half a laftover turkey burger, watched Sports Night, and went to bed.

Take Your Time
by Al Green
featuring Corinne Bailey Rae

I didn't leave the house today. I woke up and finished putting the video together on iDVD, and then printed the video, all while watching No Strings Attached. I also made some Evey eggs, to celebrate Portman culture. Getting back to the point, I don't know what the fuck is going on. It can't be a coincidence that all the films I'm watching have a sickening parallel with my life. It's very funny, God! When I die we'll look back and have a laugh about this one! Jesus... When Pop got home I showed him the video and ate a fantastic chicken sandwich... Damn. So good. Until mom got home I copied movies to my PS3, since spending enough alone time with the machine makes you discover new things, and after she got here, we spent some time in the kitchen for no particular reason, I vacuumed the living room for no particular reason, and then we sat down to watch the movie again. That's right. I watched it twice, a few hours apart. Judge. And after that, I felt like listening to Corinne. My parents went to do groceries, and I stayed in, with Al Green. Wrote my Sound entry, sifted through old music and through the music on the machine, and then watched Castle. CRAYZEH CASTLE!! Now the Heat game is on, and I'm wandering. Watched The Green Hornet when the game ended and everyone went to sleep, and discovered a new industry trick. 2AM.
I didn't even notice, until around 6:30, when I decided to make Take Your Time the song of the day, that today was the three hundred sixty-fifth post of The Sound. Somehow we've come full circle here... It's been a year since my first Flogging Molly post-- and I'm not even sure if I completely remember what I felt like then. Something's changed, though. A year ago I was still thinking about her. Well, that stopped a very long time ago. Now I'm... I don't know what I am. What I can tell you is that in the past year I've done my best to find a happiness and let it take over my body-- and that's something that, despite what whatever I'm going through right now tells you, I know I've done.

Your Love
by The Outfield

Spent the morning editing the video and cleaning the house. Ate cookies and cheese for breakfast because of my summer motivation allergies. A few hours after I woke up I had an actual meal-- by that time, though, Pops was home, and the hamburger was his doing.
I kept editing the video for the rest if the day, with some interruptions from things like the Realtor. Watched some videos (Jon Stewart vs. Bill O'Riley, the MindSnacks people) and tried downloading some movies during rendering periods. Vuze movies never stream well, though. :(
At one point I started watching Glee, until my mom couldn't hold it in anymore. She let it out and the night started. After the confrontation, we finished watching Glee, mostly in silence. After Glee we stated our grievances and spent a few hours talking. My sister came by and acted stupidly, and then went away. At the end, I broke down. I told her that my family was enough for my happiness, and asked why we weren't the same for her. It was more like begging, really. Begging and sobbing.
We topped it all off with an episode of the West Wing, and now we're sleeping. It's 1 AM.

Got up at 11:00. Called Financial Aid, showered, and ate some pita chips and pumpkin muffins. Went to the bank, eager to test my planned blunt delivery.
"Hi. I need a loan."
I walked out with no loan, but rather a credit card that is of no use to me. Came home and kept editing, after eating a homemade hamburger, so goood.. but went to Itito's for a bit before going on. Came home, paid for my credits with an e-Check, and continued editing, watching clips of Austin Powers in Goldmember while rendering. Stopped a little later to eat some ropa vieja with P-B rice (acereee), and then again to go to Suanay's solo recital. Came back home to more editing, more Austin, and an urge (from Mileini) to update the Sound. Simple day.

by Grupo Niche

Went to work at 10, came home at 4. Lectured on having a job, ate the most delicious hamburger I've ever eaten, with fried sourdough bread and some other fixins, and desserted with a very large pumpkin muffin, with a subtle sugar glaze that my mom fixed. You can imagine how delicious the house smelled. Watched a snippet of Saturday Night Live, and went to the funeral. Sleepy on the ride over; used the bed in Itito's van. Stayed for a few hours, expressed no desire to go inside the private room, and stayed in the common area. Remember going outside and sitting on the sidewalk for a few minutes.
Got home, ate another half a hamburger, and went to the Buy for the exclusives-only party. Hung out with my friends, met Chef Pepín, and chowed on some exquisite and subtle desserts. Didn't get to dance with Katherine, so I came home and readied the equipment. Finished watching a basketball game (the Heat vs. the Bulls-- the Bulls won) and Iron Chef America, where I predicted Bobby Flay would win. Battle: Mussels. Really. Preparé a Ana Milé, y eché con la Mami un pasillito antes de acostarme a dormir.

SONG OF THE DAY #360
Friday, May 13, 2011
Solamente Una Vez
por Trío Los Panchos

After writing last night's entry to The Sound, I tried going to bed. Aided by a cough attack and an undying need to fill a film void, though, I stayed up in bed watching Before Sunrise. When I started watching it, I thought it would be the perfect way to connect a couple of the week's films: School of Rock's Linklater with 2 Days in Paris' Julie Delpy. I'd just experienced an incredible film, Cashback, a few days before, and the last thing on my mind was that this other film, which before a few days ago I had never heard of, was going to be as incredible.
I didn't expect to love this film, and I think that's part of the reason I did.
I started to reason a little after that, or somehow throughout the course of the subsequent 24 hours, that there was a pattern to all of my favorite films. At some point or another, the reason a film is my favorite is because of its ability to appeal to my sense of adventure and somehow speak to me. Well, this was my next adventure. I went to sleep.
I was woken up a few hours later with a combination of alarm and both parents. Went to Itito's to dedicate the day to JBP.
We got to the first site on US1 and 20th. Here I found Tropical Perk, and unloaded two pallets of acoustical ceiling material. 2X2 tiles of both drywall and acoustical tile. Made jokes about the workers that came in behind us, and played it nonchalant ("wow, look at this tree..") as a lookout for my co-worker, who had to do his business by a large green dumpster.
Headed to the pharmacy to pick up some meds, and then back to Itita's house to hang out for a bit before taking some hair (?) to Tia's at the airport. I've been in stranger situations.
Took it to the Everglades Lumber to pick up some vinyl spackle, then to Kilowatt's for some lighting accessories. Feasted on some snackage while there, and had a bit of a strange encounter with the cafeteria man. Personal life aside, he makes a good jugo de melón.
Headed to Doral to make use of that spackle and those lighting materials, and then, after about 20 minutes of wandering the local Best Buy waiting for a Brazilian guy to show up, we got some lunch at the Palacio de los Jugos on Coral Way. Took my lunch to go, and met Victor at the DD by Crys's house. I came home with Victor a while later, lent him some mental snackage (some brilliant, contraband film material and Devendra), and finally rid myself of La Femme Nikita. Got The West Wing in the mail, and upon insistance, we watched an entire disc-- 4 episodes. Pop went to bed then, and I showed Mami Before Sunrise. Knowing the film, knowing me, and knowing her curiosity, of course it was a double feature. Before Sunset came right after. At 12:30, the movie finished and I started doing some soundwork. The day was magnificent.

Move Along
by The All-American Rejects

It was a morning song-- no more, no less. And since I think Blindsided by Bon Iver is too meaningful for a day like today (and is taken, possibly), it fits. I woke up at around 12:30 and did few things I was supposed to. Let me present a list of ways I failed this morning:
1. I woke up late.
2. I didn't finish the video.
3. I didn't finish weed-eating.
4. I didn't bathe the dog.
Now, slightly meaningful redemptive events:
1. I withdrew a payment from the bank, went to Navarro to make it into a money order, and
2. Paid it to the OEA.
3. I went to my Doctor's office to pick up test results, and
4. Showed them to my FIU Doctor, at an *appointment* (what up) which I showed up to *on time* (what up).
5. I ate lunch.

After this string of events I went in to Weitz's and hung out for a little while, before heading to the Study Abroad meeting at 5. Helped carry over some materials and stayed until around 8, at which point I gtfo Paris and came home. Watched American Idol and wrote the Sound's entry. Sup.

Evening Tune

by Wax Tailor

It was a late morning. Maybe around 12 or 1 was when I finally rolled out of bed. I decided to fumble over to the kitchen to fix some grub, and then get to watching School of Rock. Picked up my sister 15 minutes late, and got her incredibly pissed at me in the car, asking incessant yet legitimately concerned questions. Came home, made a couple of grilled cheeses, and finished watching School of Rock as she slept. Pretended to work on the video while goofing off with music. The musicworks continued until that evening, at which point Pops called me over to watch Glee and American Idol. I ate dinner and continued with my musical nonsense, until late. When everyone went to sleep, I watched 2 Days in Paris by Julie Deply, and realized I've been watching really fantastic movies lately... I think I'm going through a renaissance. And, I love summers. Oh, also, I'm broker than a Sudanese woman pregnant with her sixth child. But everything will be fine! Will soon finish the birthday video.

SONG OF THE DAY #359
Tuesday May 10, 2011
No Te Vayas
by Gilberto Santa Rosa

I just woke up from a dream. I was outside of Victoria's Secret just looking at her talk to her coworkers. That was my entire dream. Me standing outside.

Right, well I straightened myself out, and after being shooed out of bed by a concerned grandfather, paying for my phone and spending the best of a few hours downloading most of Marc Anthony's catalog, I cleaned my room and cut the grass. At some point during my lonely stint in the house this morning I remembered another dream I had-- this one much lovelier, and with Anne Hathaway. Dad got home not too late after; I'd finished watching the Sports Night pilot and had moved on to Cashback, which I finished watching with him and Itito, and turned out to be a magnificent film. Really spectacular. I told myself at one point, if I ever made a film, this is what it would be. I realized, hours later, after having seen Alfie and the opening credits to Michael Caine's Italian Job, that if I do ever make a film, it would be the product of a large collective subconscious. Cashback ended, and as I reeled in marvel I showered and got ready to leave for the eye doctor. A couple came to see the house, and a little after they left, I followed. And after Vision Works I stopped off at the video shop to pick up a few cravings, and moved on to get Jessie at Itito's. Some kind of demon possessed her this afternoon-- God knows why she didn't want to come home with me.

And at night, until about 1:30 in the morning, I got a straight shot of wake-up call, by the only person I completely trust. And Gilberto... Gilberto is starting to fade away.

Dreaming With a Broken Heart
by John Mayer

Woke up as my Dad was leaving the house; he was supposed to wake me up *before* leaving. At this he failed. Drove to Itito's, and when Marcelo got there, we loaded some materials and left a little after. Helped Itito take some materials up to a second floor at a site in Doral, and then got dropped off in Hialeah about an hour later. The rest of the afternoon I helped out Pops, Titico and Luis with an acoustical ceiling. Went to Itito's house, ate dessert, and came home. Napped for about an hour and then ate dinner and lounged for the rest of the evening. Watched The American President as my final act of the day, and at 10:40, with a full day ahead of me tomorrow, I hit the sheets.

This entire day the thought of her has disgruntled me on some fucked-up level. I've been taking Mayer's words like they were God's, only because they strangely speak to me. If there are any universal feelings, it's these. If that's true, though, why do I feel so alone? It's because love has a strange way of mixing the universality of human emotion with the privacy of someone's deepest thoughts. And I have the unfortunate privilege of being in it.

Belly Danza
by Don Omar

Mother's Day 2011 was brought on by a late morning and the spoils of the early breakfast that was. Yum yum ;)
Took a shower and watched SNL while I waited for everyone to get ready, and as soon as the moment came we took off to my nearly estranged aunt Tamara's house to visit my grandmother. Chilled wit mah scary ass cousins and ate some kind of fruit tart that was delicious. Came home again, and picked up some bathing suits to head out to Ale's house for a family getty-- the other side. Spent some time with my family, had the tasteful JC reunion, and canoed of sorts, out to the bay. Reminder: buy a canoe. You're wasting the top of your Pathfinder.
Spent some time dancing, drinking, eating, and in the pool, and tagged up a storm on Ale's Pandora. The family... something else I won't forget. Yes, future Rob-- this was the day your sister pushed you in the pool.

Woke up to go to work this morning at 9:30. Walked in to Victor quitting the buy. It was a dark morning. I stayed around MP3 the whole day, occasionally going to DI when it was swamped. Ferdinand switched with Vicky today, and when we got out at 4, I accompanied her to a pawteh at Tropical Park. Came home first, changed, ate some pan con bistec, and got frazzed at my Dad for having an unnecessary bad attitude. At the park we made new friends and made fun of the antisocials. It wasn't anyone's birthday! We were invited to an after-party at one of the kids' house, and spent the evening playing cards and socializong around the pool. Sugar gliders? Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Dick. Came back home and went to Publix, then went to pick up David and came home to play Portal 2. Got past my crazy difficult level, and at half past Mother's Day, those crazy kids went home.

Fidelity
by Regina Spektor

CINCO DE MAYO!

Today was Cinco de Mayo. I woke up at 2 and shamefully don't remember what I did until later that evening, when I finally talked to Tia Mari, for a few hours outside. We needed it, so I remembered I had balls and made the call.
I don't know what I had to eat, but sitting on the couches and lying on the ground outside felt like a trombone shot. The feeling lasted a few hours, and by the end of the conversation, the hallucinations stopped.
Naty came over later at night, and Mileini stumbled over here herself, as the night tread on. We stayed up until 6:30 AM, SÉIS DE MAYO, playing Portal 2, eating flan, and milking choco-vine.
Happy not Mexican Independence Day.

It's All Over
by The Broken Family Band

I'm repeating this song. I've become an originality fail.

I told Crys to pack a bathing suit and a towel, ordered a Sarussi, got dressed, and went to pick her up. We headed to the Venetian Pool. Swam around a bit, explored the waterfalls and the caves, and laid in the cascade pool. The whole experience could have been a montage to this song. I cracked open the sandwich, and she brought out the brownie cupcakes-- and we taught each other. The morning was perfect for something like this.
We picked up Jessie a little while later, at 1:50, and then went home to gather some things and head to Itita's. Dropped Crystal off at home, and sat in Itito's backyard for a few hours, waiting for them to get home. Had some more brownie-cakes, and took a look at Jessie's yearbook, hangin' out with Luis. Came home, took a long bath, and wrote the half of today's memoir I could.
A few hours passed and before I knew it, it was time to see Crystal again. I drove over to her house on this lovely May 4th night, with The Holiday and a few Argentinean delicacies, and had dinner over some sparkling conversation. Insisting to not watch television and help clean up instead, she kept me busy and away from the kitchen with some photos from the trip. After dinner she changed into a knockout red and black dress I don't think I'll ever forget, and we sat down to watch The Holiday. The rest I leave to memory.

Deuces
by Chris Brown & Tyga

This song isn't about the women in my life. I'd just like to clarify that to the 1.5 people that might ever read this and misinterpret.

I woke up this morning and did nothing for a little while. It was almost 10. I went back to sleep and got up two hours later, for rillz. I got up to watch John Adams, episode 1, play a little Portal 2, and watch Castle with le Pops. I can't remember in what order. Talkin to Victor, we decided to meet up for some coffee at the Double D. So I left Portal, took a shower, and got ready to go. Biked to the Dn'D and hung out for a few hours. It was all very French. We talked about love and life, and film, which are really the only important things in the world. It was already 8 when I came home, at which point I left again, to go see Ata at El Rinconcito Latino. I met my cousin there, who turned out to be the most adorable human being on the planet. Came home again and talked to Susi and Mileini, and planned for tomorrow. Ah, adolescent evils... Finally washed the dishes and went to bed.

Green Light
by Beyoncé

Called Mileini in the AM to go to FIU, only to realize she was already there. Ate some arroz frito and arrived at the FIU at my leisure. Ran some errands, dropping off my Extra Credit letter to Onstead, Paying for Study Abroad, and returning some films to the Film Library. Match Point and... Pi. I still have Sunshine. Talked to Weitz for a while, about Industry and other such goods, and brought Mileini home to do nothing in particular. We decided to leave the house to return a game at Best Buy, and grab Portal 2 when, on 826 South, traffic stopped and we didn't. That's right, friends-- while ultra-ironically listening to Beyonce's "Green Light," I somehow forgot to brake while I avoided being handcuffed to my steering wheel. Thank you, life. A few hours, a visit from my grandfather, a diabetic's emergency urinary improvisation and a ticket later, we indeed made it to Best Buy, picke up Portal 2, and made it back home. Mileini did not touch the handcuffs. Mileini did not look at the handcuffs. Mileini did not think about the handcuffs. We got home, she went home, and I think I opened it up and played the first level before hitting the sheets. It was an interesting afternoon.

I'll Be Around
by The Spinners

Woke up early to be at Fairchild-- I volunteered at the botanical capital of Miami for extra credit in Ecology, but walked away with far more than just that. Parked at the North entrance and walked south where Stephanie Bott, the Volunteer coordinator, introduced me to the gardens and the team I'd be working with: Leila, a Hawaiian expert on tropical plants, and Ted, another apt volunteer. Picked it up quick, introduced myself to the cool kids, and sold fruits all day. When the next shift came around, Ted and I did some training, and a little after, I ate lunch at the gastroPOD. Walked a little and sat in on a presentation. The morning was great, and I left saying I wanted to go back. Walked back to the car, and drove to Mileini's. She made a comment about Bon Iver, and I feared she'd listen to the album out of order. Dropped off For Emma, Forever Ago and went home. Took a shower an changed, getting ready for the Albita concert. Picked up Ana and headed to the Miami-Dade County Auditorium, where I found a much-needed release of stress. Talked and laughed, and caught up. Introduced her to a few musical geniuses, and geeked out with Albita and Ana Polo. Met up with my family, aimlessly wandered outside and back in, and finally drove Ana home at the end of the night, where lechoncito con arroz y tomate was waiting for us. Olvidate, que la jama que mete esa gente es diferente. Showed Anita some short films and learned to dance "El Reggaeton Cubano" c/o some friends in Cuba before going home for good.
