Your Love
by The Outfield

Spent the morning editing the video and cleaning the house. Ate cookies and cheese for breakfast because of my summer motivation allergies. A few hours after I woke up I had an actual meal-- by that time, though, Pops was home, and the hamburger was his doing.
I kept editing the video for the rest if the day, with some interruptions from things like the Realtor. Watched some videos (Jon Stewart vs. Bill O'Riley, the MindSnacks people) and tried downloading some movies during rendering periods. Vuze movies never stream well, though. :(
At one point I started watching Glee, until my mom couldn't hold it in anymore. She let it out and the night started. After the confrontation, we finished watching Glee, mostly in silence. After Glee we stated our grievances and spent a few hours talking. My sister came by and acted stupidly, and then went away. At the end, I broke down. I told her that my family was enough for my happiness, and asked why we weren't the same for her. It was more like begging, really. Begging and sobbing.
We topped it all off with an episode of the West Wing, and now we're sleeping. It's 1 AM.

Open Book
by Cake

Got up at 11:00. Called Financial Aid, showered, and ate some pita chips and pumpkin muffins. Went to the bank, eager to test my planned blunt delivery.
"Hi. I need a loan."
I walked out with no loan, but rather a credit card that is of no use to me. Came home and kept editing, after eating a homemade hamburger, so goood.. but went to Itito's for a bit before going on. Came home, paid for my credits with an e-Check, and continued editing, watching clips of Austin Powers in Goldmember while rendering. Stopped a little later to eat some ropa vieja with P-B rice (acereee), and then again to go to Suanay's solo recital. Came back home to more editing, more Austin, and an urge (from Mileini) to update the Sound. Simple day.

SONG OF THE DAY #359

Move Along
by The All-American Rejects

It was a morning song-- no more, no less. And since I think Blindsided by Bon Iver is too meaningful for a day like today (and is taken, possibly), it fits. I woke up at around 12:30 and did few things I was supposed to. Let me present a list of ways I failed this morning:
1. I woke up late.
2. I didn't finish the video.
3. I didn't finish weed-eating.
4. I didn't bathe the dog.
Now, slightly meaningful redemptive events:
1. I withdrew a payment from the bank, went to Navarro to make it into a money order, and
2. Paid it to the OEA.
3. I went to my Doctor's office to pick up test results, and
4. Showed them to my FIU Doctor, at an *appointment* (what up) which I showed up to *on time* (what up).
5. I ate lunch.

After this string of events I went in to Weitz's and hung out for a little while, before heading to the Study Abroad meeting at 5. Helped carry over some materials and stayed until around 8, at which point I gtfo Paris and came home. Watched American Idol and wrote the Sound's entry. Sup.

Dreaming With a Broken Heart
by John Mayer

Woke up as my Dad was leaving the house; he was supposed to wake me up *before* leaving. At this he failed. Drove to Itito's, and when Marcelo got there, we loaded some materials and left a little after. Helped Itito take some materials up to a second floor at a site in Doral, and then got dropped off in Hialeah about an hour later. The rest of the afternoon I helped out Pops, Titico and Luis with an acoustical ceiling. Went to Itito's house, ate dessert, and came home. Napped for about an hour and then ate dinner and lounged for the rest of the evening. Watched The American President as my final act of the day, and at 10:40, with a full day ahead of me tomorrow, I hit the sheets.

This entire day the thought of her has disgruntled me on some fucked-up level. I've been taking Mayer's words like they were God's, only because they strangely speak to me. If there are any universal feelings, it's these. If that's true, though, why do I feel so alone? It's because love has a strange way of mixing the universality of human emotion with the privacy of someone's deepest thoughts. And I have the unfortunate privilege of being in it.

I Don't Want to Know
by Fleetwood Mac

I woke up this ...afternoon... to a text that was incredibly well-timed. Replied earnestly, accordingly.
Got up at 3 and went to Itita's to see off the half of my Argentinean family that was visiting. Spent time with my adorable-is-an-understatement cousin Gael, and hung out with my family until we came home a little after 9. Started playing Portal 2, and watched the American Idol elimination round. Sleep circa 11:30. Work tomorrow.

Too Late
by Carole King

Woke up early and Pop drove me to work at 9:30. Spent the morning talking to Victor, bonding over our respective fountain jumps. After that, I spent the afternoon working MP3 and floating, Carole King stuck in my head, and in the test iPod. I came home at 4 with John Adams, a speaker, a cable and some Smart Water.

I came home and changed, and went to David's to pick up the Sleigh Bells tickets for tonight. Saw his weapons collection and headed out to get ready. The night was basically a disaster. Apart from losing the tickets and then really embarrassedly finding them in the car, it was one of the (in terms of human interaction) coldest, most distant experiences of my young ad life (or at least of the past couple years). The entire night was plagued with some guy that was giving me more attention than my actual date, and BONUS: we were there for four hours, and after two lousy openers, we walked out as Sleigh Bells was about to sound check. She felt bad, and I took her home.

"Remember how we talked about this not being the right time?"
"Yeah..."
"...yeah."

Wow. I guess it was too perfect.

It's fine. Go through what you need to go through, knowing who'll be here waiting for you when you're done. Y hasta entonces, que sepas que puedes contar conmigo para lo que te haga falta. Now drive home, and be safe.

I wasn't giving you the silent treatment; I was just speechless. Carole King, that's your cue.

And this is how my week ended.

Fake Empire
by The National

Got up crazy late.. like at 12:45. I bought some tickets through Culture Shock before getting out of bed, to a strange dance company performing at a new theatre. The grass had just finished being cut and Gustavo was at my house. I watched The Notorious Bettie Paige, and then followed it up with the first three episodes of The Lost Room, which my mom and my sister joined me for. They'd gotten home. From that point, I started getting ready to go-- a process at the latter end of which I reminded Mileini to be here.

Together we took Archimedes to the South Dade Cultural Center to watch an incredible, unforgettable DIAVOLO performance, and then we headed all over the city scouring for an open restaurant. We settled at IHOP 20-30 minutes later. ^.^

MIDNIGHT BONUS TRACK
First Date
by Blink-182

We talked for what seemed like hours, about endless hilarities and the realities of life. It's always real with this girl.
It's so strange; the night was so simple, but an incredible show and simple sparkling, honest conversation turned it into one of the unexpected best nights of my life.

Riding on the high of the past few days, and coming home from a great night tonight made me feel strange. The whole day I felt half-awake, like it was all too perfect. This is the perfect song for today, which, little did I know, was the peak. And as for the Bonus Track, this is what hanging out at IHOP with Mileini, talking about first dates feels like. I love everything about this night.

SONG OF THE DAY #344

Maybe I'm Amazed
by Paul McCartney

This was one of the greatest nights of my life.

14 HOURS EARLIER:

I woke up at 10, took a shower, and gathered up some words. It's the morning after the letter. I'd never opened up that much to anyone before, and it freaked me the hell out. I practically tore my heart out and bled on paper yesterday, the craziest day of my life. I checked my emails and read one from Onstead, in response planning to volunteer at Fairchild later this week.

I chucked up some courage and talked to Jaife this morning. We agreed on no weirdness, and we thought about making this part of our relationship, instead of just seeing it as a hiccup. We were this close to moving on, and for several hours we did. So what was the next thing I did? The same thing we do every day, Pinky: talk to Mileini and watch Glee, and plan for the movies with Crystal.

At 7:30 I met Crystal, Chang and a friend at Palace 18. We watched Limitless and walked around the strip mall, talking about nothing in particular and eating wheat thins. When it was time to go, Crys took Chang and Victor home and I waited around her neighborhood for her to get home. I drove around and then parked a few blocks south of her house. This was my downfall. After having a bland evening with Crystal's friends, maybe it wasn't the best idea to sit around by yourself, letting music convince me that I love someone else. It started with the Eels, and then it transcended into McCartney and I couldn't stop myself. I started hyperventilating again, and my heart started beating. I couldn't believe it, but I was thinking of her.

I woke my confiante up and explained everything, and doing that I realized that these things don't just happen. I can't keep letting my life pass me by. Not when feelings like these are involved, because I don't come by them often. I begged, "Dime que la vaya a buscar. Solo dímelo."

Crystal texts me. She's home, but it's too late. The Beatle has brainwashed me.

I tell Mileini to take Jaife to the fountain. I feel nauseous again. I pack some courage and that godforsaken Geico cupholder, and get in the car. I drive to the fountain. I drive to the fountain.

SONG OF THE DAY #324

Kickin' With You
by Jason Mraz

Woke up at 12:20. Was in class by 12:40. Reacting's last session. Weitz's office/Film library until 3:15, Mileini out of baby lab 3:20, got seats in DM 100, then stepped out to grab some food. Back for genealogy colloquium at 3:30. 4:45 colloquium lets out, walk Mileini to Blue and then bike to the car on the rocks, going out of my way to see the nature preserve. Bike through some of it, but walk through most, and come out the other end to see the swing and Lexa. "What are you doing here?!" moment, and then I got a free Earth Week t-shirt and a frisbee and biked back to the car. Went home listening to Mraz with hipster do: earth week t-shirt, pants rolled up and barefoot. Went to gas up Archie and came home. Ellen was recorded, and so was American Idol, and then I changed my shirt, put on some boat shoes after washing where they go, and headed to Best Buy to pay my bill. Came out with a speaker, a cable, and a Tron t-shirt. Paid off $50 and charged 90. De madre. Came home, talked to my grandparents and my mom for a while, about change and responsible driving, and when they left watched American Idol: the elimination. I cannot tell you how frustrated I was. Mileini can. Not since Lakisha, and that was back in '07, has this happened. But this one was worse: she was the most talented singer, she could've actually won the whole thing, and.. You know what? I'm getting angry again. Whatever.

SPECIAL BONUS TRACK:
I'll Stand By You
by The Pretenders

Installed my new speaker while talking to the leins and then reorganized all my bookcases, until 1 AM. I have nothing to say, except something's wrong with me. There's a problem somewhere deep within my psyche that thirsts for order. And re-order. And Perfect order. Usually I'm just happy with my work; this time, I was completely outside myself throughout the entire process lol. I know this is crazy, but I can't stop. I just can't stop doing this. I'm going to feel like a freak when it's perfect, but it WILL be perfect. Tidied up and then retired to the family room to watch the West Wing with a grumble. PB & Lord John Marbury, and at 1:48 I changed into sleep and wrote. 2:19. Goodnight, moon.

SONG OF THE DAY #218

Gravity
by John Mayer

Today I woke up late after going to sleep at 5:30, working on my wrap report for the festival. Slept through class (in the comfort of my home), woke up at 10:30 and headed out to MIFF, getting there at 11:30. I printed everything out, put my binder together, and had my exit interview. Forget bittersweet; it was just bitter. Leaving that office makes me want to listen to Bright Eyes and sulk. Life's going to be crazy different after this. I can feel myself wanting more already.
Coming home and watched the Census episode of the West Wing while falling asleep, held out until the end, and knocked out for a few hours afterwards. Woke up to an empty house and decided to high road it- I made clean and got dressed, and picked up the disparate articles of clothing that were disturbing the shui.
Watched an episode of The League and waited for Lani to get here before heading over to Jackie's party. Convinced Jorge to meet us there, and had a fun night of catching up, talking crap, dancing, and making fun of other people. Coming home this song came on the shuffle. It was at least the third time today. She came in for a drink, and then I walked her to her car. When I got back inside the house, I shut the door, I turned around, and this song exploded around me. I took a look in the mirror, like I do whenever I need to figure myself out, and thought about my life. Oh, God. It's going to be interesting.

Shortly Before the End
by OK GO

This song is for the Assembly, at which the King was sentenced to 15 years in prison without the need to renounce the Bourbon line or his alliance to the Pope, and for the resulting news bulletin, when we found out that the King was whacked by one of Susan's lackeys. Dead and gone. The rest of the afternoon was spent talking to everyone on fb about the crazy assembly, and watching the west wing.

MIDNIGHT BONUS TRACK:
The Heart of Life (Live)
by John Mayer

In the evening I became disappointed with my poor, unknowing sister, and went to clear the frustration one block up, where I taught myself to bike with my hands behind my back.
I came back and worked on my wrap report until around 5 A.M., at which point I finished up and knocked out by 5:30.

This is a rare live recording of The Heart of Life by John Mayer. It's strangely the only version of the song I can relate to. All the others I've heard, even the one that appears in Where the Light Is, comes across as too processed for some reason... This one is perfect. It's essential.

or

Romeo & Juliet
by Dire Straits

Today was a regular day filled with the opposite of productivity. I was supposed to have written half my paper, so that tomorrow I'd have the other half to finish. Instead, I woke up far after Urban Eco had ended. At 2 I wet to pick up Jessie and took a trip to FIU to drop off some money orders, a bunch of forms, and a copy of mon passport. Outside of the house, her name is now Michelle. Doubled back to ECC to pick mom up together, and then headed back the other way to Itita's to pick up some food. ¡Espagueti con picadillo, chica!
When I got home and ate, Mileini called me back to school for an Aesthetics and Values opening at the Frost. Until about 6 we were there, at which point the girls bailed and I came back home. Before 9 I knocked out on the couch, and woke up at 2:30. Wrote this, drank a ton of water-- ¡Agüita fría, chica!-- and went to bed. The opening was nice, and so was the company, but I should've written my shit. Ahora mañana me queda una tonelada de cosas pa' hacer. No no no, vaya. No acabo de aprender.

SONG OF THE DAY #305

Little Motel
by Modest Mouse

Woke up early to give the people coming to see the house at 12 a chance to see both my room and the bathroom neatly made. All day I did nothing but watch an episode of Skins and download and listen to people's souls being spilled in ink. These lyrics are incredibly terrifying. David Gray, Bright Eyes, Elliot Smith, Colin Hay, City & Colour-- they all have something inherently powerful to bring to the table, and it makes me want to go out and look up at the sky and believe in Life as much as it scares the crap out of me that people could actually feel this way, and that I have, too. I spent the day, while doing the aforementioned, updating The Sound. These festival days are killing me... I left most of them blank.

If you're ever incredibly heartbroken or incredibly in love, and you want to feel like you have a kindred spirit in songwriters, listen to these. But mind you, this is not to be taken lightly. To attest such strong emotions may cause you to fall out of, or even deeper in love.

Anyway, putting a serious note aside, I had a great time just simplistically talking to my parents in the backyard. Corny, but they know so much about life. Maybe it was just an introspectve day. Yeah, it was a very, very introspective day. It was also Mileini's Mom's birthday, and so I wrapped up a bottle of white wine and made a Salsa mix and headed over.

Brothers, endless conversation, excellent family members, mamá no tiene modestia, salsa lesson, funny quote from my youth, Jaques Tati. And sometimes I wish this was a private journal.

Caveat: This song, I just realized, is a repeat from a couple hundred days ago. Just go with it.

SONG OF THE DAY #300
Monday, March 14th, 2011
Go Your Own Way
by Fleetwood Mac

Got up and slummed it for a while. Mami y Papi salieron a hacer mandados y me dejaron a la Jessie. Itito came con Luís while I was in the shower, y salí listo precisamente cuando llegaban de regreso. [Mileini, ¿no sabías que este era un blog bilingüe?] I headed out to MIFF HQ, now back at MDC, at around 1. Got there @ 2:15. It was a strange feeling, seeing everyone make final changes and pack up in slight. MIFF 11 kind of changed my life, and now everyone's starting new chapters in theirs. It's very probable that I was the one most affected person out of all of us coming out of this. I was the newest to the film world, and now I have to deal with the fact that what I used to settle for in terms of doing something with my time isn't going to be the standard anymore. I can't just sit around slumming it at Best Buy after having done the festival. Like it or not my mind already started moving on to the next big thing, and honestly, I don't really have a clear picture of what it is. Got my yearbook signed by the rest of the staff; now I'm only missing Marketing and Jaie. Wednesday's the wrap party. Wednesday's the wrap party.
Dropped Elena off at the Airport, 2nd time. Vivian's B-Day, Annie's kids, more chocolate, Craig's goodbye. Copied a ton of screeners and brought them home, hung out with Andres and Sarah after everyone left the office. Literally everyone was in the programming office-- well, except for Maria, the special projects lady. That SLUTTT~ hahah
G-ddammit, I'll never forget this.
Came home and left to pick up J-Dawg with Mami y Papi [Mileini, ¿no sabías que mis padres se llaman así?] and hung out with baby Ashley-- the most incredibly adorable creature on the face of the earth. Mileini refuses to procreate. Eh, what are you gonna do? Came home, finally, and watched an episode of Skins. Things settled in, and I put on the Orphanage.
Me-¿Quieres ver una pelicula que produjo mi amiga Elena?
Dad-Dale, a ver...
20 minutes later.
Dad-Está intrigosa esta película...
20 minutes later.
Dad-Hace RATO hubiece salido de esa casa. ¡Nombre no!
20 minutes later.
Dad-¡Ay, cojones!
The severity of this progressed throughout the rest of the film. La verdad es que estaba de a cojón... Talking to Anita while watching it, hehe. Oh, and one last thing: a facebook message made my heart explode into T-Pain. "You minx," I thought to myself, as a giddy smile appeared on my face.

FESTIVAL DAY TEN

The time changed last night, and today I was supposed to be at the Royal Palm Hotel at nine. That did not happen. Nine and a half hours later, when I actually woke up, I felt great! I ate breakfast, I watched SNL, and I had genuine silence for a few hours. Just genuine silence and rest after a week and a half of the complete opposite was fantastic. I'm a bum, but I like it. He he... I walked around the house all day, nappin' with my dog and shiz, and watching SNL. Whene everyone got home, I went to my room to finish watching In a Better World, and then I brought out Garden State to have a moment. It was great again! Then I had a frustrating conversation and went to sleep. The end.

FESTIVAL DAY TWO

Today was crazy. So crazy, in fact, that I'm writing this on my down time at RPH the next morning. Woke up early and got to RPH at 9. At around 10, Danette calls me to pick up the Producers and Cast of 50 Cent's film Things Fall Apart. WHAT?! Jesus, ok. Went over there and while waiting with them to go to the Betsey, experienced my first Hollywood Douchebags moment (standoffish executive producers who belittle interns and think they own the city, producers who are habitually late to their own press conferences, producer's wife, who is only in the film because she's the producer's wife, and producer's mother, who is so incredibly over-indulgent that you can tell she's become accustomed to the luxuries of the biz). Got to te press conference with the crew, and it was a success. 50 got there, too, albeit raspando con tiempo. The thing went off without a hitch. Took the car back to the Royal Palm at around 12:30, and I was scheduled to leave at 1. Basically my shift was done. I can't remember what I did after that, but at 4:30 I got on my bike and went to see You Are Here at the Regal, liaised by Diliana and introduced by Andres. The Premiere of Things Fall Apart was later at night at the Gusman. It was the night of the first emergency. Danette asked me to head over there just in case it rained, to be ready with a back-up planand to help with reserved seating. I did both of these and stayed to watch the film up in the balcony with Lani. After the screening, hell broke loose. After the Q&A, Tim the assistant and I had to find Danette and ask her what the hell was going on with Transportation, seeing as our cars were missing and no one answers their phone. Met everyone backstage only to discover that the cars were still not in place. When they finally got there, the festival team got in one of the SUVs with Randall and the rest of the behind the scenes gang, and Mario and his SO got inside the next one. Little did the second driver know, the director wasn't the only one scheduled to ride in that car. He left me qith half the cast on the sidewalk, waiting for a car that would come almost ten minutes later-- it was the same car that decided to double back. The rest of the cast got in and on their way, and Rachel, who also went to grab her car, took the rest of the entourage back to the beach. I was supposed to go see The Last Circus with Andres and Jaife at midnight, but no. Things Fell Apart instead. At 12:30 I met Jaife by MDC, who had been waiting since before midnight. We missed the film, and pulled a hangout instead. Talked about jumping in pools, the moon, and other things I can't remember. Just being in a car with Jaife at that point, and my festival phone being off, was all I needed. Got home pretty late, and hit the sheets right away. It was the second day, and it was ridiculous.
