THREE HUNDRED FIFTY-EIGHT

SONG OF THE DAY #358

Dreaming With a Broken Heart
by John Mayer

Woke up as my Dad was leaving the house; he was supposed to wake me up *before* leaving. At this he failed. Drove to Itito's, and when Marcelo got there, we loaded some materials and left a little after. Helped Itito take some materials up to a second floor at a site in Doral, and then got dropped off in Hialeah about an hour later. The rest of the afternoon I helped out Pops, Titico and Luis with an acoustical ceiling. Went to Itito's house, ate dessert, and came home. Napped for about an hour and then ate dinner and lounged for the rest of the evening. Watched The American President as my final act of the day, and at 10:40, with a full day ahead of me tomorrow, I hit the sheets.

This entire day the thought of her has disgruntled me on some fucked-up level. I've been taking Mayer's words like they were God's, only because they strangely speak to me. If there are any universal feelings, it's these. If that's true, though, why do I feel so alone? It's because love has a strange way of mixing the universality of human emotion with the privacy of someone's deepest thoughts. And I have the unfortunate privilege of being in it.

Gravity
by John Mayer

Today I woke up late after going to sleep at 5:30, working on my wrap report for the festival. Slept through class (in the comfort of my home), woke up at 10:30 and headed out to MIFF, getting there at 11:30. I printed everything out, put my binder together, and had my exit interview. Forget bittersweet; it was just bitter. Leaving that office makes me want to listen to Bright Eyes and sulk. Life's going to be crazy different after this. I can feel myself wanting more already.
Coming home and watched the Census episode of the West Wing while falling asleep, held out until the end, and knocked out for a few hours afterwards. Woke up to an empty house and decided to high road it- I made clean and got dressed, and picked up the disparate articles of clothing that were disturbing the shui.
Watched an episode of The League and waited for Lani to get here before heading over to Jackie's party. Convinced Jorge to meet us there, and had a fun night of catching up, talking crap, dancing, and making fun of other people. Coming home this song came on the shuffle. It was at least the third time today. She came in for a drink, and then I walked her to her car. When I got back inside the house, I shut the door, I turned around, and this song exploded around me. I took a look in the mirror, like I do whenever I need to figure myself out, and thought about my life. Oh, God. It's going to be interesting.

Shortly Before the End
by OK GO

This song is for the Assembly, at which the King was sentenced to 15 years in prison without the need to renounce the Bourbon line or his alliance to the Pope, and for the resulting news bulletin, when we found out that the King was whacked by one of Susan's lackeys. Dead and gone. The rest of the afternoon was spent talking to everyone on fb about the crazy assembly, and watching the west wing.

MIDNIGHT BONUS TRACK:
The Heart of Life (Live)
by John Mayer

In the evening I became disappointed with my poor, unknowing sister, and went to clear the frustration one block up, where I taught myself to bike with my hands behind my back.
I came back and worked on my wrap report until around 5 A.M., at which point I finished up and knocked out by 5:30.

This is a rare live recording of The Heart of Life by John Mayer. It's strangely the only version of the song I can relate to. All the others I've heard, even the one that appears in Where the Light Is, comes across as too processed for some reason... This one is perfect. It's essential.

Slow Dancing in a Burning Room
by John Mayer

This was stuck in there randomly today. I don't even have it in my iPod, which is soon to be *just* an iPod. Finished watching Marie Antoinette this morning, and then worked from 3 to close-- and got out of work at 1:15. It was pretty crazy! Took an hour with Elo to munch on some Mao--- super perros, baby! The good times return.
