THREE HUNDRED SIXTY-FIVE

SONG OF THE DAY #365
Wednesday, May 18, 2011
Take Your Time
by Al Green
featuring Corinne Bailey Rae

I didn't leave the house today. I woke up and finished putting the video together on iDVD, and then printed the video, all while watching No Strings Attached. I also made some Evey eggs, to celebrate Portman culture. Getting back to the point, I don't know what the fuck is going on. It can't be a coincidence that all the films I'm watching have a sickening parallel with my life. It's very funny, God! When I die we'll look back and have a laugh about this one! Jesus... When Pop got home I showed him the video and ate a fantastic chicken sandwich... Damn. So good. Until mom got home I copied movies to my PS3, since spending enough alone time with the machine makes you discover new things, and after she got here, we spent some time in the kitchen for no particular reason, I vacuumed the living room for no particular reason, and then we sat down to watch the movie again. That's right. I watched it twice, a few hours apart. Judge. And after that, I felt like listening to Corinne. My parents went to do groceries, and I stayed in, with Al Green. Wrote my Sound entry, sifted through old music and through the music on the machine, and then watched Castle. CRAYZEH CASTLE!! Now the Heat game is on, and I'm wandering. Watched The Green Hornet when the game ended and everyone went to sleep, and discovered a new industry trick. 2AM.
I didn't even notice, until around 6:30, when I decided to make Take Your Time the song of the day, that today was the three hundred sixty-fifth post of The Sound. Somehow we've come full circle here... It's been a year since my first Flogging Molly post-- and I'm not even sure if I completely remember what I felt like then. Something's changed, though. A year ago I was still thinking about her. Well, that stopped a very long time ago. Now I'm... I don't know what I am. What I can tell you is that in the past year I've done my best to find a happiness and let it take over my body-- and that's something that, despite what whatever I'm going through right now tells you, I know I've done.

Fake Empire
by The National

Got up crazy late.. like at 12:45. I bought some tickets through Culture Shock before getting out of bed, to a strange dance company performing at a new theatre. The grass had just finished being cut and Gustavo was at my house. I watched The Notorious Bettie Paige, and then followed it up with the first three episodes of The Lost Room, which my mom and my sister joined me for. They'd gotten home. From that point, I started getting ready to go-- a process at the latter end of which I reminded Mileini to be here.

Together we took Archimedes to the South Dade Cultural Center to watch an incredible, unforgettable DIAVOLO performance, and then we headed all over the city scouring for an open restaurant. We settled at IHOP 20-30 minutes later. ^.^

MIDNIGHT BONUS TRACK
First Date
by Blink-182

We talked for what seemed like hours, about endless hilarities and the realities of life. It's always real with this girl.
It's so strange; the night was so simple, but an incredible show and simple sparkling, honest conversation turned it into one of the unexpected best nights of my life.

Riding on the high of the past few days, and coming home from a great night tonight made me feel strange. The whole day I felt half-awake, like it was all too perfect. This is the perfect song for today, which, little did I know, was the peak. And as for the Bonus Track, this is what hanging out at IHOP with Mileini, talking about first dates feels like. I love everything about this night.

Stolen
by Dashboard Confessional

Woke up and told Mileini I'd meet her at the FIU, only to stay in my pajamas and watch American Idol. I think I cracked my foot last night. After taking a shower and getting dressed, I went to the Park to meet Crystal. We set up a blanket and talked, and then went to the swings and did the same... Together we ran through the sprinklers in the soccer field. Very metaphorical. Soaked, we said goodbye.

The rest of the day was a blur.

SONG OF THE DAY #336

The High Road
by Broken Bells

Got up early by way of Itito, went to Myth, signed up for the clean-up committee, talked to Angela, and donated $5 to the Food Committee. Got out of there and went to the Honors College to thank Rachelle, ended up spending like an hour and then some, maybe, just talking garbage. Went over to the library and met up with Anaís on a whim while waiting for Jaife at Starbucks. She came down, and we went over to Jamba Juice. Dropped some tunes with Anaís in good faith. Tried the Peach Pleasure... heheh. It was pretty damn delicious. Walked Jaif to French and saw Mileini coming out of Spanish on the same floor. Walked to class. In reacting, we had a huge love fest, giving suggestions on what we could have or couldn't have done differently, and spreading revolutionary cheer. It was the day we found out of our fates in the game. After class I headed back home to watch the West Wing. The last episode was brilliant!! Into the night I worked on the slideshow for Ecology, and watched the beginning of Arthur with Dudley Moore. Went to bed at around 2 or something, and got up a few hours later for class...

I got this song, after months of searching, from watching the Rabbit Hole trailer late last night. I couldn't believe my ears. It was a Eureka moment.

Tree By the River
by Iron & Wine

I just finished reading the Tao of Pooh. It's 2:24 AM.
This morning I woke up in time for class, but I didn't go to class. I stayed home, ate breakfast calmly, and then went to Coral Park. Talked to Vivian for 2 seconds, Gutierrez to borrow the Tao of Pooh, Menasche for 2 seconds, and Pena for like an hour. We talked about school, family, and everything in between. And changes. Lots of changes. Came home, started reading, gave up on reading... Nah, i didn't get up on reading; just suddenly realized I had to run to FIU. So, a few hours after getting home from Coral Park and watching episode 1 of the Misfits-- was that today? I think that was today, yeah. Anyway-- I decided to go back to FIU. At FIU, I was a Bisy Backson. I had to do a few things to see how I could declare my major and clear my hold. In the Honors College, only Jose could help me, or the anthropology department. The anthropology department is now in SIPA, for future reference. Declared my major. The Anthropology advisor said it would take about a week. I said, "ehhh," and he said "ok, do you want to take it instead?" I said yes. He said, "Welcome to the Family." ...I like that he said that. It makes me feel welcome. He shook my hand and said "Welcome to the Family." And he seems like a nice guy. I think that handshake is one of the most refreshing experiences I've had in a long time at FIU. "Welcome to the Family." It's so simple, but its the perfect thing to say. Anyway, I went to drop it off at the ECS building right after. And after dropping it off at ECS, I went to the office of education abroad and told them that my hold had been lifted and that i'd declared my major. "Yayy!!" she said.
I came home, I read or did something--I don't really know. And then Papi came home, and then Jessie came home, and a little while after that I went to sleep. I decided it was too noisy in the living room to read, and that it was too mosquitoey outsde, so i went to my bed to read at around 3:00 or 3:30. Well, this is what happened. Five hours later I woke up, and hadn't read past the first chapter. I hadn't done anything, so I decided to go eat something and then keep reading. I ate and came back to the room to get the job done. I went back over to the living room an hour later, turned the TV off in front of a sleepy father and sat on the red sofa to finish reading. I had only read about a quarter of the book. I sat on that sofa until 2:00 in the morning reading the Tao of Pooh. I took 2 breaks: one to eat a banana and some quakes, and another to watch a few trailers online. It's 2:31, and I am signing off. 2:32. I remember why I loved that book so much. I'm thankful that Gutierrez gave it to me; it's come at the perfect time, especially after a few nights ago. Really, the perfect time.

THREE HUNDRED EIGHTEEN

SONG OF THE DAY #218
Friday, April 1, 2011
Gravity
by John Mayer

Today I woke up late after going to sleep at 5:30, working on my wrap report for the festival. Slept through class (in the comfort of my home), woke up at 10:30 and headed out to MIFF, getting there at 11:30. I printed everything out, put my binder together, and had my exit interview. Forget bittersweet; it was just bitter. Leaving that office makes me want to listen to Bright Eyes and sulk. Life's going to be crazy different after this. I can feel myself wanting more already.
Coming home and watched the Census episode of the West Wing while falling asleep, held out until the end, and knocked out for a few hours afterwards. Woke up to an empty house and decided to high road it- I made clean and got dressed, and picked up the disparate articles of clothing that were disturbing the shui.
Watched an episode of The League and waited for Lani to get here before heading over to Jackie's party. Convinced Jorge to meet us there, and had a fun night of catching up, talking crap, dancing, and making fun of other people. Coming home this song came on the shuffle. It was at least the third time today. She came in for a drink, and then I walked her to her car. When I got back inside the house, I shut the door, I turned around, and this song exploded around me. I took a look in the mirror, like I do whenever I need to figure myself out, and thought about my life. Oh, God. It's going to be interesting.

THREE HUNDRED SEVENTEEN

SONG OF THE DAY #317
Thursday, March 31, 2011
Shortly Before the End
by OK GO

This song is for the Assembly, at which the King was sentenced to 15 years in prison without the need to renounce the Bourbon line or his alliance to the Pope, and for the resulting news bulletin, when we found out that the King was whacked by one of Susan's lackeys. Dead and gone. The rest of the afternoon was spent talking to everyone on fb about the crazy assembly, and watching the west wing.

MIDNIGHT BONUS TRACK:
The Heart of Life (Live)
by John Mayer

In the evening I became disappointed with my poor, unknowing sister, and went to clear the frustration one block up, where I taught myself to bike with my hands behind my back.
I came back and worked on my wrap report until around 5 A.M., at which point I finished up and knocked out by 5:30.

This is a rare live recording of The Heart of Life by John Mayer. It's strangely the only version of the song I can relate to. All the others I've heard, even the one that appears in Where the Light Is, comes across as too processed for some reason... This one is perfect. It's essential.

TRECIENTOS DIECISÉIS

CANCIÓN DEL DÍA #316
miércoles 30 de marzo de 2011
Leave Your Boyfriends Behind

SONG OF THE DAY #310

Bizness
by tUnE-yArDs

with Midnight Deep Track:

I'll Be Seeing You
by Billie Holiday

Woke up at around 10 to head to reacting at 12. Stopped at tb for the first time this year, and felt crummy after eating what used to be my usual 5-layer burrito. Maybe I flushed out fast food already? It's just not the same anymore. So crummy, in fact, that I bought a taco with it and I had to give it away to someone in reacting. In class was the slaves' play and the Salon of 1791. Got a haircut for a second, and then headed home to freshen up and chill out for a bit. Danette invited me to Paragon at 5, for Rowbear's sendoff/the MIFF volunteer screening of Rango at the lounge. Got to Lani, Vicky, and the rest of the crew on time and stayed for the first few minutes of the movie, at which point Danette, Andres and Roberto went outside for a quick drink break to kill time before having to go to a museum exhibit and drop the guys off-- we talked about my future, about films, about schools, and about everything in between (including programming codec and Johnny Depp's "good roles"). Broke off and headed home, stopping before at Vision Works for a quick visit. Jenny's still married, and the place is still the same, for the most part. Coming home I ate fet Alfredo with my parents, and came to the computer to research the green roof project a little more. Caught the latter end of American Idol-- the most crazy one so far (the guy almost fainted when they used the judges' save!)-- and then got lazy, decided I wasn't writing anymore, and put on my friendly neighborhood Netflix DVD. Bernardo Bertolucci's Stealing Beauty with Liv Tyler. Oh, Lord. Oh, Lord, thank you for making such a graceful, beautiful girl. Thank you for making Liv Tyler.

The Park
by Feist

Feist is back. This morning I got up at 10:30 after a late night. A reminder let me know I had half an hour to get clean, clothed and in the car, to be at my checkup appointment at 11. When I got there they said I didn't have an actual appointment, to which I replied: WTF, I made it yesterday. Got in, got checked, I'm working. Went to grab an adapter for reacting, and then went to class. It got crazy. We passed education, after which they actually arrested the king. Wha-- ok...? Tabled Article 2 and argued over Melanie Gros instead. Took some time at the atrium to eat an expensive bagel sandwich and talk to everyone. Les Justes, Melanie, Sam, Andrew, Kirk, Kharla, and Jaife were there, y así pasamos el tiempo hasta las 3:30, cuando nos fuimos pa'l museo. A&V Honors Hour, and some Frost time with Mileini and the lunch people. Trang was there, too. After that was the orientation for CSA 11 from 5 to 7, and after that was coming home to watch Castle and check emails. Saw some excitement about Guerrilla Film Project, and looked at pictures from the festival. Hipster kitty came up, and from then on I showed ma what urbandictionary.com was, and looked up hipster so she would understand. Talked to Jaife for a while, and at around midnight, when the weight came down, I headed out to help the other me. Got back at around 2:30, and thought of Feist. I just saw a Bon Iver cover of this track last night, and it's been subliminally stuck in there. Today, incidentally, was The Park.

SONG OF THE DAY #303

Foolish
by Ra Ra Riot

Got up, went to get some bloodwork done. It was a success. I had to go all the way to Ponce, because my local Redbird Quest Diagnostics was closed, but it worked. Ripped the band-aid off to Boy by RRR in the car on the way to pick up some Arroz Frito @ El Rinconcito. Jessie was unnecessarily annoying the entire day thereafter. Don't ask me why. Got home with my take-out and decided to finish cutting the grass and doing some other house fixins before eating, to stop Pops from taking over. Ate, then fixed my room somewhat, and ended up watching yet another ep of Skins. To celebrate St. Paddy's I holla'd at Adrian while watching doing this, and caught wind of his plans... Headed out at around 8 to Itita's and left a few hours later to go out with Mileini and Jaife to Miracle Mile for the huge road block concert/night of debauchery they had across a few avenues. Learned some more French (I can count to 10 correctly now!) walking to the mile from Mileini's. TONS of people dressed in Green! Wtf...
Met up with Grace and Wendy and hung out for about 45 seconds, then ended up in the alley of "The Bar," where I ran into a few people. A Best Buy manager, an old co-worker, and my cousin's best friend. Called Yve and met up with her a few blocks away, at a closed restaurant by Spy World. We left a little while later, at around 11:30, and headed back to Mileini's, where we took NPH to a friend's house. Got home at around 3. Had fun on a surprisingly clean St. Patrick's Day.

Foolish came into play in the last couple hours of the day, when I had an unusual realization that was probably only pasajero. Pensive night. It was sitting in the car in front of my house at 2:30 AM that I played out my entire day in Super 16mm with no audio overlay, and realized the song worked.

The Only Living Boy in New York
by Simon & Garfunkel

FESTIVAL DAY TEN

The time changed last night, and today I was supposed to be at the Royal Palm Hotel at nine. That did not happen. Nine and a half hours later, when I actually woke up, I felt great! I ate breakfast, I watched SNL, and I had genuine silence for a few hours. Just genuine silence and rest after a week and a half of the complete opposite was fantastic. I'm a bum, but I like it. He he... I walked around the house all day, nappin' with my dog and shiz, and watching SNL. Whene everyone got home, I went to my room to finish watching In a Better World, and then I brought out Garden State to have a moment. It was great again! Then I had a frustrating conversation and went to sleep. The end.

RPH industry viewing library 10-11:30, had a long convo w/ Angel Soto about financing projects, directing, selling, emotion, and selling emotion.
Class @ 12:30
Crazy assembly, like recently it's been happening..
Headed home, ate a sandwich, watched the judging of an Iron Chef episode, and fell asleep for about 2 hours. Was brutally awoken by a spray bottle. Unhappy about that. No help with clothes, disappointed about that. Off to work again.
7:30 liaison to Andrew Rossi - Page One: A Year Inside the New York Times
Sat w/ D for screening
10:00 liaison to Marshall Curry - If A Tree Falls
Pasha's
Jury-infused after-party.
The party was lame, and it was a cash bar. They ruin it for all of us. Habían cuatro gatos y cobraban. ¡Nombre no!
After walking around and trying to get into the W for at least some water, got rained on and dropped off the Jubin Bros. at their respective hotels and came home listening to Van Van.

SONG OF THE DAY #230
Monday, January 3rd, 2011
Slice Open The Day
by The Accidental

Got up at around 12:30 and got to work at 2. Imported checklists listening to the 140 songs my iPod now has in it, after yesterday's (technically this morning's) swipe. I added Dark Was The Night, The Accidental, Marie Antoinette and Florence, with Bon Iver and Adele among a few select others. The shuffle sounded pretty much like a mix of all of these sounds, which is why The Accidental is a good fit. Slice Open is versatile in that it has the fluidity of something like O'Halloran's "Opus 23," but has clear and subtle alternative roots that are much more like Bon Iver, and even Florence's "Liar." It's the perfect tie-in. After work I went straight home, ate and fell asleep. Woke up four hours later and got to watchin' some new Castle and, strangely, House Hunters: San Francisco. It's 2 AM and I'm going back to bed. Peace, y'all.
